Keynote Speaker

Simon Rogers is an award-winning data journalist, writer and speaker. Co-host of The Data Journalism Podcast and author of ‘Facts are Sacred‘, published by Faber & Faber around the world. He has also written a range of infographics for children’s books from Candlewick.

Data editor at Google, based in San Francisco, he is director of the Sigma Data Journalism Awards and teaches Data Journalism at Medill-Northwestern University in San Francisco and has taught at U Cal Berkeley Journalism school.

His latest book, What We Ask Google, will be published by Random House in 2026.

[SSOW] gives you the opportunity to real-time benchmark what’s going on in the organization. Not only from the data that SSON provides but also from the interaction with your peers... It’s the opportunity to meet some of your peers that you maybe only talk to the whole year over the phone... Build those contacts, build those networks. It’s a wonderful expenditure of my time.

It’s great to see industry experts and peers at all levels participating, sharing knowledge and available for casual conversations throughout the week. One thing that I’m really looking for is having discussions with others and learning more about how people are thinking about cognitive technologies, such as OpenAI and ChatGPT... Our ability to learn from each and explore the realm of the possible.

This year’s turnout has been better than I’ve seen in a long time... great to feel all the energy that’s around from the various companies. One thing I’m extremely looking forward to of course is the award recipients at the [SSON North American Impact] Awards Gala. Based on all the nominations that were submitted, having been a judge the last several years, including this year, I’m extremely excited about that.

I don’t get the energy I get locally that I get with SSON. It's great to be with like-minded people. We’re talking the same language. This service that’s being provided to people is worth every penny. That’s why I like being a part of it. People should not miss out on this opportunity.
